AC Repair Tips: Why Is Your Air Conditioner Not Blowing Cold Air?

There’s nothing worse than your air conditioner failing to blow cold air on a hot day. Understanding why your AC isn’t working properly can help you fix minor issues and know when to call for professional help.

This blog will guide you through common problems and simple troubleshooting tips to get your AC blowing cold air again.

Understanding the Basics

Before diving into troubleshooting, it’s important to know the basic components of your AC system. Proper AC repair often starts with identifying which part is causing the issue.

This information was compiled by our team who provides AC repair in Kingwood.

Common Reasons Your AC Isn’t Blowing Cold Air

1.   Dirty Air Filters

  • Explanation: Clogged air filters restrict airflow, making it hard for your AC to cool your home.
    • Solution: Check and replace air filters every 1-3 months.

2.   Thermostat Issues

  • Explanation: Incorrect thermostat settings or a malfunctioning thermostat can prevent your AC from cooling properly.
    • Solution: Make sure the thermostat is set to “cool” and the temperature is set lower than the room temperature. Replace batteries or the thermostat if needed.

3.   Refrigerant Leaks

  • Explanation: Low refrigerant levels due to leaks reduce the AC’s ability to cool air.
    • Solution: Call a professional to locate and fix leaks, and to recharge the refrigerant.

4.   Frozen Evaporator Coils

  • Explanation: Coils can freeze due to poor airflow or low refrigerant levels, stopping the AC from cooling.
    • Solution: Turn off the AC to let the coils thaw. Check for airflow issues or refrigerant leaks.

5.   Dirty Condenser Coils

  • Explanation: The outdoor unit’s condenser coils can get dirty, reducing efficiency.
    • Solution: Clean the condenser coils with a garden hose, or call a professional for a thorough cleaning.

6.   Blocked Vents and Registers

  • Explanation: Blocked vents or registers can prevent cool air from circulating properly.
    • Solution: Ensure all vents and registers are open and unblocked by furniture or other objects.

When to Call a Professional

If these troubleshooting tips don’t resolve the issue, it may be time to call for professional ac repair. Complex problems like electrical issues, compressor failure, or major refrigerant leaks require expert attention. Regular maintenance by a professional can also prevent many of these issues from occurring.

Preventive Maintenance Tips

1.   Regular Filter Changes

One of the simplest yet most effective preventive maintenance tips is to change your air filters regularly. Dirty or clogged filters restrict airflow, making your AC work harder to cool your home. This not only reduces efficiency but also increases energy bills and wears out your system faster. For optimal performance, check your filters every month and replace them every 1-3 months, depending on usage and the type of filter.

2.   Annual Check-Ups

Scheduling annual maintenance checks with a professional technician is crucial for keeping your AC in … Read More..

Dealing with a Tight Deadline

I had a close call with my English paper. This paper was assigned by my professor weeks ago, but I waited until the last minute to start it. There was no way that I was going to finish the paper, so I asked a friend for help. He finished his paper early, and I asked him if I could use his as a guide. He agreed, but told me to make sure that I made my paper different enough from his so that we wouldn’t fail. In order to make the papers different, I used the Plagiat Kontroll website to check for similarities.

The website simply looks for matching text to check for plagiarism. If our professor was able to figure out that my friend gave me his paper to use as a guide, he would probably have both my friend and I either expelled or put on academic probation, in addition to giving is failing grades in the class. The class is one that my friend and I both need to graduate, and I would rather not take the class over again. I don’t think either of us would be able to handle probation or expulsion.

Thanks to the website and my friend’s help, I was able to make a paper in time to turn it in. The professor graded the papers and said that I did an excellent job on mine. I was actually able to get a higher grade on my paper than my friend did. I took my friend out to lunch to thank him for letting me use his paper in my time of need. He wanted to go to some seafood restaurant that had opened recently, not necessarily for the food, but because he wanted to talk to one of the female employees that works there.… Read More..
