How Students Can Be Better Writers

Completing your bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degree is a lot of work. Students have to complete many required writing assignments. But, many students struggle with their writing skills, and wonder what steps they can take to improve. Use these tips from Uppsats to be a better writer.

First, start your writing process by making an outline. This outline should give a brief overview of your planned essay structure. Think about the major items you plan to write about. You typically start out with an introduction. The introduction tells the reader what your essay is about, and gives the reader a taste of your main points. Then, move on to the big key points you want to discuss. Break down these big points into smaller components. Conclude your essay with a conclusion that gives a recap of the key points you have made.

After creating your outline, the next step is to simply start writing. The key in this stage is to not worry too much about how good your writing is. Just follow your outline and get started! The editing step comes later, so don’t bog yourself down during this step. Get a first draft written and move on.

Once you have a first draft, now is the time to be a ruthless editor. Check your grammar and spelling. Make sure your logic is sensible. Analyze whether your arguments and conclusions make sense. If not, ask yourself what evidence you can add to address those shortcomings. And ideally, get a friend to read your essay, since another pair of eyes always helps to spot mistakes that you may have missed!

Another way to improve your writing is to get professional help. Companies like Uppsats can be a huge help for students who don’t feel confident following the steps above by themselves.… Read More..

Dealing with a Tight Deadline

I had a close call with my English paper. This paper was assigned by my professor weeks ago, but I waited until the last minute to start it. There was no way that I was going to finish the paper, so I asked a friend for help. He finished his paper early, and I asked him if I could use his as a guide. He agreed, but told me to make sure that I made my paper different enough from his so that we wouldn’t fail. In order to make the papers different, I used the Plagiat Kontroll website to check for similarities.

The website simply looks for matching text to check for plagiarism. If our professor was able to figure out that my friend gave me his paper to use as a guide, he would probably have both my friend and I either expelled or put on academic probation, in addition to giving is failing grades in the class. The class is one that my friend and I both need to graduate, and I would rather not take the class over again. I don’t think either of us would be able to handle probation or expulsion.

Thanks to the website and my friend’s help, I was able to make a paper in time to turn it in. The professor graded the papers and said that I did an excellent job on mine. I was actually able to get a higher grade on my paper than my friend did. I took my friend out to lunch to thank him for letting me use his paper in my time of need. He wanted to go to some seafood restaurant that had opened recently, not necessarily for the food, but because he wanted to talk to one of the female employees that works there.… Read More..

I Use a Plagiarism Checker a Lot Now

When I first heard of a plagiarism remover tool, I honestly did not know what it meant. How does one go about removing plagiarism? The obvious answer to me was not plagiarizing in the first place. That was before I had to help with a technical rewriting of a manual. I knew the material well, so I thought it would be easy. The goal was to get away from the technical jargon as much as possible. The intent was to make the manual very easy for just about anyone to not only read but to also understand it.

It took me around a week to finish it, and my boss told me he was going to run it through a program that searches for plagiarism. I knew that I had not copied anything from the older more tech-y manual, so I was not concerned when he told me this. When he brought it back to my office and showed me that there was a lot of extreme similarities between the two manuals, I admit that I felt a bit sheepish. Actually, I felt a lot sheepish because I thought that this was an easy project to have to do.

I was very thankful that he had run it through the plagiarism checker because I would have never known just how much of the old manual I took into the new manual. I was able to look at what I had written with new eyes, and I realized that I still had not made it easy enough for a layman to read it and understand it. I really tackled it hard with a new approach, and I was very satisfied when my boss told me that it came through the plagiarism checker with flying colors. I now use that program anytime I have to do a rewrite of anything!… Read More..

He Tried to Cheat on an Essay

When a fellow teacher of mine told me about the plagiumkereso site, I was not sure that it was something that I wanted to use. Granted, I was fairly new to teaching and still had a lot of naive ideas about my students. I wanted them to be the best that they can be, but I realized that they are going to be the best that they want to be. The sad truth is, not all of them want to get the best grades possible. For some of them, skating by is their best, or at least what they are willing to put into the course load.

I still wanted to trust my students that they would not cheat to get passing grades, but my friend told me enough stories that I felt I should take off my rose colored glasses and see my students for who they truly are. Now don’t misunderstand me, because most of them are really good students who do want to get good grades. There are a few though who don’t mind passing off work that is not their own. I decided to use the plagiumkereso site one day when the essay that a student turned in did not match what I thought he was capable of doing.

I was surprised to see that he had copied nearly the entire essay, once I ran the text through the checker. He had changed a few words, hoping to pass off the work as his own, but he had reached too high on the essay. It made it easy to know that it was not his own. I went to him with the proof that I had because of the plagiarizer checker, and he was very ashamed. He explained that he is not a good writer, and that started a discussion that I knew I could help him with. He now turns in his own work, and no one is the wiser about what happened other than the two of us.… Read More..
